Baptisms must be scheduled in advanced. Please phone the office at 970-586-8111.

This sacrament is known as the first sacrament of the Church. Anyone who accepts Jesus as the Savior enters into God's
Church through the Sacrament of Baptism. Adults who were not baptized and desire baptism enter the RCIA (Rite of
Christian Initiation of Adults) process. Parents or legal guardians for anyone under the age of 7 who seeks Baptism
can do so by contacting the parish office. Parents may be asked to fulfill certain prerequisites prior to the actual
Baptism of their child.
For infants and young children, the joyous celebration of baptismal liturgy brings families together. Baptisms are
often done during a Saturday or Sunday Mass - although they may happen at other times. With regard to Baptism during
Masses, it is in this way that we fulfill the ideal to celebrate the sacraments as the community gathered. Please
feel free to review possible dates by contacting the parish office. Other times are possible for families who have a
priest or deacon who is a family member or close friend. If this is the case, please contact the parish office to
schedule a time.
Godparents should be selected with great care. They should be faith-filled Catholics who are practicing the faith.
If two are chosen, they must be of the opposite sex to maintain the image of parents. One must be a fully initiated
Catholic over the age of 16. The second should be a Catholic although a validly baptized individual of another Christian
faith may be chosen as a Christian Witness. Unbaptized individuals cannot be chosen (e.g. a member of the Jewish
faith cannot be a godparent). There are other exceptions so please contact the parish office before making a final
selection for godparents.
Our Baptism Prep Class is to prepare you, not only for the day of the Baptism itself, but also for the journey of
faith that you, as a family, are committing to at Baptism. Baptismal Prep takes between 2-3 hours. During the Prep
''class'' - we review the Old and New Testament ''themes'' of Baptism and we go through a ''dry run'' of the
actual Baptism Ceremony. It is through the collaborative efforts of you, the parents, and us, your parish, that
children will first learn of God's love for them. Together we rejoice in this and all of the Sacramental moments
in the lives of our children, and together we commit to helping these children know the light of God's presence
in their lives.
As with marriage preparation, preparation for the sacrament of baptism of children is an opportunity to evangelize
or ''renew'' and to strengthen adult relationships with Christ and the Church. An effective preparation program
continues the ongoing formation of parents and provides an opportunity for a closer relationship with their local
parish community.
